LIFE Multi-AD 4 AgroSMEs: High performance multiphase anaerobic reactor for agroindustrial wastewater treatment
News LIFE Multi-AD 4 AgroSMEs.
LIFE Multi-AD, technological innovation at the service of Sustainability
The relationship between innovation, water and food processing is key to the competitive and sustainable management of the food and beverage industry. Leading companies in the sector, such as Bodegas AGE, demonstrate the commitment of the agri-food sector to R&D&I and sustainability through their collaboration in the LIFE Multi-AD project.
Efficient water management is one of the main challenges facing the agri-food industry in 2030. It is not only a question of wastewater treatment, society, increasingly committed to the environment, and legislative measures, demand a responsible and sustainable use of water resources.
In the coming years, the competitiveness of the food and drink industry will depend to a large extent on its ability to meet the main sustainability challenges. The scarcity of resources such as water is becoming a major concern, which requires the development of technological solutions to increase efficiency in its use.
Technological innovation: a strategy for sustainability and competitiveness
Technological innovation is the main tool for guaranteeing the sustainability and competitiveness of companies. Innovation and technology enable more efficient management of water and natural resources, increasing the resilience of companies.
The involvement of the agri-food industry in the fulfilment of the Circular Economy Action Plan presented by the European Commission, as well as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the United Nations 2030 Agenda, requires companies to go beyond the conventional and invest in technology and innovation applied to the environment…
FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY: LIFE MULTI-AD PROJECT PARTNERS PRESENT THEIR TECHNICAL PROGRESS TO THE NEEMO MONITORING TEAM
The partners of the European project LIFE Multi-AD 4 AgroSMEs (LIFE17 ENV/ES/000331), made up of AEMA (Agua, Energía y Medioambiente Servicios Integrales S.L.U.), I&S (Institutions & Stratégies), ITAINNOVA (Instituto Tecnológico de Aragón), SIS (Societatea de Inginerie Sisteme S.A.) and EGA (Energygreen Gas Almazán S. L.), have held their fourth general assembly, with the presence in La Rioja of the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency of the European Commission (CINEA) through the NEEMO representative Mariona Salvatella, to show the progress and results of this initiative.
During the meeting, in which except AEMA, the partners participated online, the results of the different activities developed during the last eight months have been presented. In addition, a visit to the demonstration prototype located in Bodegas AGE (Fuenmayor, La Rioja) was made together with the representative of the European Commission. During the visit, the progress in the assembly of the different elements that make up the demonstration unit was shown, which, based on an anaerobic process, will allow the technical, economic and environmental viability of the LIFE Multi-AD technological solution to be evaluated.
LIFE Multi-AD participates in the IV International Technical Seminar on Water Management in Agri-Food Industries.
The LIFE Multi-AD project was part of the seminar organized by AINIA on September 30, which was attended by more than 130 people in a hybrid format. The seminar addressed the main challenges faced by the food and beverage industry to achieve a more efficient and sustainable use of water.
Experts from various fields related to the water sector, such as public agencies, suppliers and research centers, discussed and exchanged information about the main trends in research and technological innovation for water treatment and reuse.
Jorge Rojo, AEMA Key Account Manager, showed the capabilities of the LIFE Multi-AD technological solution in the framework of the communication and dissemination activity of the project, as well as carried out networking actions with synergic technological initiatives such as Water2return.
LIFE Multi-AD participates in the Thematic Webinar organised by European Innovation Council (EIC) Greenhouse Gas Programme
AEMA, catalyst and coordinator of the LIFE Multi-AD project, participated in the Thematic Seminar organised by EIC Greenhouse Gas Programme on the Energy Sector: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JDE6JvMmJwo.
The webinar is part of the initiatives developed by the European Union (EU) after the presentation of the Green Europe Agreement. In this agreement, the EU committed itself to reducing CO2 emissions by 50-55% by 2030 and to becoming CO2 neutral by 2050.
The LIFE Multi-AD project is developing a technological solution, which by means of an anaerobic process, will be able to valorise the organic matter present in industrial wastewater, producing biogas, which can be used as a renewable energy source. In this way, the LIFE Multi-AD technology will reduce the carbon footprint compared to aerobic processes.
MULTI-AD NETWORKING ACTIONS BY EGA CLOSING EVENT OF THE LIFE+VALPORC PROJECT
The main objective of the LIFE+VALPORC project has been to demonstrate a sustainable alternative to the management of pig carcasses and manure, addressing the environmental problems of their current management and valorizing these wastes through their transformation into biofuels (biogas and biodiesel) and organic fertilizers.
During the event, EGA presented the LIFE-MULTIAD project as an alternative to conventional biogas technology for the treatment of organic wastes.
LIFE Multi-AD participates in the European Green Week 2021
LIFE Multi-AD participates in the European Green Week 2021 that has been held virtually from May 31 to June 4 under the slogan “Aspire to zero pollution”. For five days, relevant initiatives for the European Green Deal have been discussed, such as climate initiatives, the future Strategy on Chemical Substances, and initiatives dedicated to energy, industry, mobility, agriculture, fisheries, health and biodiversity .
The European Green Week 2021 has offered the opportunity to the LIFE Multi-AD project to be able to get in touch with other interested parties in achieving a collaboration with which to aspire to zero pollution for an environment without toxic substances. LIFE Multi-AD attended the award ceremony of the best LIFE 2021 projects, as well as the Challenge of circular economy in WWTP for green energy production: LIFE Ecodigestion 2.0.
About the project
The main objective of the LIFE Multi-AD 4 AgroSMEsproject is to develop and industrialize an innovative fully automated system for the treatment of wastewater generated by small and medium-sized companies from the Food & Drink (F&D) sector. This technology is based on the design of high-performance anaerobic multiphase reactor patented by AEMA and its production will be personalized according to the specific needs of each client.
