LIFE Multi-AD AgroSMEs is part of the PTV’s 3rd Strategic Innovation Plan

Technological innovation is a strategic variable for the food and beverage industry since it constitutes the main tool to guarantee its sustainability. The technological advances of these companies should be focused on improving the environmental efficiency of processes and products, finding practices and techniques to decrease the use of natural resources.

The agri-food sector is aware of this fact, and for this reason it continues to bet on R & D & i. In fact, the Technological Wine Platform (PTV) has presented the results of its 3rd Strategic Innovation Plan with a total of 63 R + D + i projects approved. In terms of investment, these initiatives have mobilized more than 50 million euros, a fact that shows the clear commitment of the wine sector to innovation.

The Special R&D Projects 2017-2019 presented by the PTV classifies these initiatives around the six areas in which its Technical Commission is structured, including Sustainability and Climate Change. It is in this area where the LIFE Multi-AD 4 AgroSMEs project “High Performance Multistage Anaerobic Reactor for the Treatment of Waste Water of Company of the Agro-food Sector” is framed.

LIFE Multi-AD 4 AgroSMEs technological solution

The LIFE Multi-AD 4 AgroSMEs project will develop and industrialize a fully automated system for the treatment of wastewater generated by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the agri-food sector. The technological solution is based on the design of a high-performance multistage anaerobic reactor, patented by AEMA, whose manufacture will be customized according to the specific needs of each client.

The LIFE Multi-AD 4 AgroSMEs will reduce the environmental impact of food SMEs, as well as the operating costs derived from the treatment of wastewater. The technological solution will valorise the organic load of the residual water producing biogas. This biogas will be used as a renewable energy source, saving natural resources and reducing the Carbon Footprint.

The LIFE Multi-AD 4 AgroSMEs project is 60% supported by the LIFE + ENVIRONMENT program of the European Commission and is coordinated by EEA as an expert company in wastewater treatment technologies. ITAINNOVA, a leading technological centre for technological innovation, SIS, a company that provides solutions in the field of industrial automation, EGA, a specialist in the management and recovery of organic waste through anaerobic digestion, and I&S, a consultant and communication.
